Here are some notes about how loot should be distributed in guild raids. This is applicable to all 10 man raid content.
Primary Raid Spec Gets Priority
Each character needs a selected primary raid spec. A shaman for example can be a healer, melee dpser, or a ranged magic dpser. When items drop people that will use that item for their primary raid spec get priority. So lets say a healing cloak drops. A holy priest will get it over a boomkin druid because the holy priest will use it in raids.
Now if an item drops that no one needs for their primary raid spec then anyone that can use it for offspecs can roll. Just be sure you make it clear your roll is an offspec roll.
Main Raid Character Gets Priority
Just like primary raids specs people need to select one character as their main raid character. This main raid character will get priority over alts. If an item drops alts will not get the item unless the main raid characters don?t need it.
PvE Gets Priority over PvP
People can now turn in PvE tier tokens for PvP gear. Regardless of whether people think this is a good thing or a bad thing we need to make rules about it. PvE gear is intended to help raid progression. PvP gear is intended for battlegrounds and arenas. All drops in raids must go to help raid progression first. So people that want tier tokens to get PvE gear will get priority over people that are going to get PvP gear.
But just like offspect gear, if no one needs a token to get PvE gear people can roll for tokens to get PvP gear. If you are doing this make sure you are very clear that you are making a PvP offspec roll.
Item Use
The goal is to put each item that drops to the best use it can be. Items are designed for specific purposes. So we should give priority to people that will use an item to it?s fullest.
Some examples:
Lets say Mithril Chain of Heroismp drops. This item has strength, agility, and stamina on it. This is very good for feral druids, enhancement shamans, and furry warriors (to a slightly lesser extent). In the case of a hunter the strength would not be fully utilized. So if a hunter and feral druid wanted this item the feral druid should get it because the druid would utilize it more. There are far better hunter necklaces out there.
Lets say Mallet of the Tides drops. This item is designed to be used by protection warriors. There are not many protection warrior weapons out there. But lets say it?d be an upgrade for a rogue that was using a Kara dagger as a main hand. However, if a protection warrior wanted the item they?d get priority since they?d utilize it more.
Armor Type
Ideally cloth armor will go to priests, leather armor will go to druids, mail armor will go to shamans, and plate armor will go to paladins. Hopefully this will be the case; however, sometimes this is hard. For example try to find boomkin leather drops in raids; there are few if any. Sometimes people will have to use lower armor types. But lets all try to keep this to a minimum. Priests can only use cloth. Paladins can use cloth, leather, mail, and plate. It?d be pretty crappy to see paladins who have so many options taking cloth when priests just have one option.
Talk it Out
It is always nice to see people talking about loot. Figuring out if someone else would benefit from getting something more. Having people pass on a small upgrade to give someone else a big upgrade is cool. So talk things out. Ask for more time if you need it.
Show Respect
Getting loot distributed properly is very important. So if items drop that you don?t care about please be respectful and let the loot be passed up without interruption. Please keep quiet in vent. Keep out of /raid. No posting of meters. And most of all no joke rolls! EVER! It?d be pretty horrible if your actions meant someone missed out on getting good loot. So please show respect while loot is being distributed.
